make-an-excellent-upgrade-to-your-home-with-sliding-glass-doors-falls-church-vaWhile there are many upgrades that one can make to their home, some of them provide more benefits than others while certain improvements are simply more fitting to a homeowner’s wants and needs.

If you are looking to enjoy multiple benefits from an upgrade, you should consider sliding glass doors.

An Attractive and Versatile Look

It is hard to deny that sliding glass doors look good, but the great thing about them is that they fit well into most styles of homes, making them a versatile upgrade. In order to get one that meshes well with your home, you can make changes to the frame material, thickness, fittings, and design.

Safe with Shatterproof Glass

An understandable concern is safety, but this is nothing to worry about because sliding glass doors use shatterproof glass, thus ensuring they are safe even when a rough encounter occurs.

Lower Energy Costs

With how much natural lighting you can get with a sliding glass door, there is no need to rely on artificial lighting throughout the day to get enough lighting. It might not make a substantial difference, but over the course of several months or years is when you will see noticeable savings.

Easy to Use

If you have children or seniors in your home on a regular basis, you will find that sliding glass doors are rather nice because they are so simple to use and easy to open and close. It is not something that people have to struggle with, which is a great and often overlooked quality of sliding glass doors.

If you are interested in getting sliding glass doors for your home, contact us today.

If you want to make a drastic difference in the appearance of your bathroom, it's helpful to browse through the different styles of shower doors that utilize glass due to its modern appearance and easy-to-clean quality. While a shower curtain may be the cheapest solution for showers, they generally lack in style and value compared to shower glass doors if you want to make a purchase that will increase the value of your home.

“Glass doors are almost always preferable,” is the opinion of interior designer Jessica Helgerson, as printed in The New York Times. By opting for glass doors for a standalone shower or a bathtub and shower combination, you can add quite a bit of value to your home during a remodeling project.

Besides the value of glass doors, many homeowners find this type of enclosure for showers to be appealing due to how easy it is to clean. Shower curtains can often trap quite a bit of moisture in the creases, often resulting in significant wear and mold occurring. By installing a shower door that uses glass, the user can generally just wipe down the door with a shower cleaning tool. The task takes only takes seconds and should result in your bathroom looking much nicer than with a shower curtain.

Glass panels and doors can fit into a variety of decorating schemes, allowing you to make an investment that will help improve the appearance of your bathroom for years to come. This can be especially appealing since it will ensure that your home will be attractive to future home buyers since they should be able to put their own special touch on the bathroom since glass doors are very neutral.

112214Bathroom mirrors may be the most important aspect to a bathroom for reasons that everything to do with how you want to see yourself. While size and placement of a mirror will determine that, what about the psychological impact of having mirrors in more than just on bathroom walls? Not everyone is fortunate enough to own a bathroom that could be designated an alternate living room. You may be one who lives in a smaller house or apartment who feels claustrophobic in your tiny bathroom.

Yes, some bathrooms can be so small that you can barely turn around in them. But have you ever thought about what it would look like in there if you placed mirrors on your countertops or bathroom cupboards? It's a custom idea that we can do for you here at Hutchinson Glass & Mirror. While we provide many different items made of glass, we're always designing custom projects for our clients to help give them the psychological feel of more space.

The Illusion of More Space in a Small Bathroom

While some may merely hang mirrors on all four walls of their bathrooms to make the space look bigger, adding mirrors to your cupboard doors can add more stylization that's different from the ordinary. The reason is because it reflects light at different angles, hence making it easier to light up the area. Plus, with decorative possibilities on the cupboard doors, you can customize the mirrors with different designs to make it look more artful. This can include etched glass, something we do often.

When it comes to mirrors on your bathroom countertops, you can bring the same oblique angle function of reflecting light. You also give the illusion of more depth on those counter spaces by reflecting the ceiling. If you have the mirrors aimed toward a window bringing in natural light, a stubbornly dark bathroom can suddenly turn into a bright and cheerful area.

Contact us here at Hutchinson Glass & Mirror so we can work with you on customized mirrors for your bathroom. Since many people spend as much time in the bathroom as they do their kitchen, we want you to make your bathroom (or any room in your house) feel more vibrant with the power of glass and mirrors.

are-my-custom-mirrors-at-risk-of-developing-black-or-brown-spots-falls-church-va

Have you ever wondered, “Are my custom mirrors at risk of developing unsightly brown or black spots? It is a common question, especially given the condition of many antique mirrors people stumble across while shopping at flea markets, boutique shops, collectible retailers and the like. The answer we give our customers is, “not likely” and here’s why:

Brown and black spots are caused by one thing, substances seeping through the mirror backing. Those substances range from condensation and cleaning fluid to storm water and human sweat. The related stains use to occur often in the 1800s and early 1900s because custom mirror backing weren’t that strong. Today, many custom mirror fabricators use stronger materials that prevent seepage. As such, brown and black spots are thankfully becoming scarce.

Of course there are still antique and cheap mirrors out there that remain at risk of developing ugly spots. With that said, we’d recommend taking steps to prevent discoloration from occurring in the first place. Otherwise, once the spots form there is really no way of reversing the damage without cutting out the discolored areas. Here are a few solutions:

  • Use a dehumidifier, heater or air conditioning system to keep the indoor, relative humidity below 50% and avoid placing cheap mirrors in areas prone to developing moisture problems. Examples include rooms with hot tubs, saunas, whirlpools, glass enclosed showers, garden tubs and lap pools.
  • Bring your mirror to us and ask to have the backing coated with a protective material. Of course you could also try to bolster the existing backing yourself with specialty paints and films from the local craft store. They won’t be as effective as the commercial backing materials we have on hand but may do in a pinch.

A coffee table is often an essential piece to living room furniture, bringing a focal point to the seating area, and there are multiple ways you can go about decorating a glass top coffee table.

For instance, you could leave the coffee table plain and without decoration to let it serve its main purpose of holding items as needed, or you could use it to promote additional functionality or activities.

Add Functionality with a Decorative Tray

A decorative tray is a great choice because it not only adds to the overall appearance, but it incorporates an extra layer of functionality. Items placed inside the tray do not touch the glass top surface, and having the tray towards the center of the table top will motivate people to put snacks or drinks on the tray.

Leave a Deck of Cards or Dominoes

Whether you have a few minutes to spare or you are just relaxing in the living room with family, friends, or coworkers, you are most likely not going to go out of your way to set up a game of cards or dominoes.

However, if you place a deck of cards or domino set on your coffee table, you or someone else may take a look, become interested, and start playing a game with you or another person in your home.

Create a Stack of Self-Help Books

Another way to improve the look of your coffee table and reap benefits simultaneously is by getting some self-help books and placing them in a neat stack. Whether you find used books from a local thrift store, take from your own collection, or buy new books with the intention of reading them is up to you.

Although a glass top coffee table can be beautiful on its own, you can make it even better by adding to its beauty and mixing it in with some clever functionality and purpose.

Granite may be great but an increasing number of high-end designers are turning their attention towards a material that is lighter, brighter and more versatile. Yes, we are talking about all varieties of glass. In high-end designers’ eyes, tempered glass in solid or blended colors is often just as desirable as recycled glass mixed in with industrial strength binders and other earth-friendly materials. Many people also love the fact that glass countertops are so easy to care for, whether they’re made out of solid slabs or a combination of materials.

Solid slabs are generally cleaned with standard, household glass cleaners and paper towels. Recycled glass countertops, on the other hand, may require a bit more care because of the binders, pigments and other earth-friendly materials involved. For example, some of those added materials are porous. As such, the surfaces may need to be sealed, waxed and kept away from acidic foods, beverage or harsh cleansers. Otherwise, they may develop areas marred by stains, pitting, etching and other surface damage.

At Hutchison Glass & Mirror, we custom fabricate glass countertops for all areas of the home. Plus, we can help incorporate glass into other residential or commercial design elements as well. For instance, let’s say that an interior designer is working on remodeling a person’s kitchen and the plans call for the following:

  • Glass Countertops
  • Glass Cabinet Doors
  • Glass Backsplashes
  • Glass Lighting
  • Glass Room Dividers
  • Etched Glass Window Panes
  • Glass Pantry Shelves
  • Glass Drawer Fronts
  • Glass Tabletops

Our fabrication and installation experts can contribute their skills to all of those projects, thereby ensuring a seamless look to the room. Furthermore, customers who purchase large quantities of customized glass countertops and other design elements may be eligible for a substantial discount. Is a bathroom remodel on your list of 2015 spring renovations? According to various cost vs. value reports, it is common for homeowners to boost the resale value of their homes by 60% or more by completing bathroom remodels and bathroom additions. So, you’re obviously on the right track. However, in order to stay there it's best to take 2015 bathroom trends into account as well. They indicate that shower glass doors are really hot right now.

Why are shower glass doors hot this year? For starters, they work perfectly in infinity bath schemes. Infinity bath schemes tend to make use of glass doors, overflowing bath tubs and specialty lighting to give the illusion of an endless, serene, watery escape. Glass shower doors also fit in with other trends. Among them are salvaged décor, expanded shower spas, Japanese soaking tubs, high-tech AV systems, seated and steam shower setups.

We particularly like the high-tech shower trend. It makes it possible to include HD televisions, built-in stereos, side-tub refrigeration, chromatherapy and smart water control systems and other cool amenities into personal care experiences. However, to truly have a high-tech bathroom, it is important to find a company willing and able to customize glass enclosures. At Hutchinson Glass & Mirror, we can do that and more.

Our team can fabricate glass shower doors, medicine cabinet mirrors or glass, glass countertops, glass shelving, glass cabinetry and stylish backsplashes. Consequently, when it comes to glass and mirrors, you’ll be able to control every detail of your bathroom model or addition. We can work from photos of your favorite design elements or sketches that you may have created to help plan your bathroom’s new look. Plus, we can show you our gallery of previous bathroom projects that may just spark a new idea or two for you.

Keeping your shower clean can be a challenge when you consider how quickly glass can become streaked with regular usage. Instead of allowing your shower to look dirty, bringing down the visual appeal of your bathroom, get familiar with a few cleaning tips for shower enclosures. With the following tips in mind, your shower can remain spotless.

Squeegee after Showering

The easiest way to prevent streaking on the glass shower doors is by using a squeegee each time that you shower. Hanging a squeegee using a suction cup inside the shower makes it easy to grab after showering and allows you to wipe down the glass shower door after each shower. This will ensure that no water droplets remain so that the shower can dry thoroughly after use.

Use Glass Cleaner Regularly

Keeping some regularly used cleaning solutions in your bathroom, either underneath the cabinets or in drawers, is so helpful for keeping the space clean. It’s likely that you already have a glass cleaner stored away, so it’s important to begin using this cleaner on the shower doors. This will help remove everything from fingerprints to streaks, helping to keep your shower clean.

Avoid Harmful Cleaning Agents

With how much time is spent in the bathroom each day, it’s important that you’re not breathing any harmful fumes. Sticking with natural cleaning solutions is so helpful since it will keep toxic chemicals out of the bathroom and ensure that your bathroom remains a comfortable place to be.

If you’re curious about how to keep your shower enclosure clean or are interested in getting a new enclosure installed, please contact us.

Are you space challenged? Is your living situation more cramped than you'd like, but a remodel to add that needed addition just isn't in your financial cards this year?

There is another solution and an affordable one to boot. Instead of refinancing the house to redesign and build that extra space, try some custom mirrors

A large custom area mirror strategically placed can magically add on that addition simply by reflecting the room back to you, giving the illusion of space. And amazingly, when a space appears larger, we feel as though we actually do have plenty of space. Energy always fills a vacuum and if it seems as though we have ample space, we somehow function just fine within that space.

Another idea to reflect your space back to you, is with colored back painted glass, or with textured or pattered glass. Full or partial wall installations of this mirrored or textured glass can result in stunning transformations of your space, rendering it unrecognizable from its former stunted views.

It may not offer the storage you need, but for a quick and very beautiful fix, Hutchinson Glass & Mirror can offer some excellent mirror and glass ideas. And as a fourth generation family owned business since 1920, HG&M is the oldest, independent, glass fabricator/retailer in the Washington metro area, specializing in the highest quality, distinctive design, production, and installation of all types of glass.

With a knowledgeable staff of skilled installers providing excellent service, customer satisfaction is priority. If you are ready to deal with your space challenges, contact us today for a complimentary consultation.

mirrors-5-tips-to-create-space-in-a-small-room-reston-va

Mirrors are a wonderful decorating tool for your home. They add natural light to a dark room, lengthen walls, add height to ceilings, and make spaces appear larger. If you have a small space in your home, try using mirrors to make it feel more spacious. Check out these five tips for using mirrors to add the illusion of space in your home:

1. Go with groups. Hanging mirrors in groups is a great way to get the effect of a larger mirror without the price tag. The trick with grouping mirrors is to buy mirrors of different sizes and shapes, but with the same (or very similar) frames-this keeps your collection looking organized rather than cluttered and messy. Grouped mirrors also make an interesting focal point in any room, especially an entry area.

2. Work with windows. Have a small room with a window? Hang a large mirror on the wall opposite your window. This technique reflects the outdoor view of the window, almost making it appear as if the room has another window. The room will be flooded with more natural light, creating a feeling of more space.

3. Go big. If you are looking for a dramatic way to create space and make your ceilings feel higher, Real Simple magazine suggests using a mirror that is at least three-quarters the height of your ceiling. There is no need to try to hang such a heavy mirror - leaning it against the wall and securing it that way works well.

4. Try one behind the stove. A small kitchen will open up with a mirror placed on the wall behind your stovetop. We spend so much time in our kitchens standing in front of the stove, having a mirror in this spot will automatically make the room feel larger, and add tons of light to a normally dark wall.

5. Turn it. Lengthen a short wall by turning a long, skinny mirror on its side. Hang it on the wall horizontally, and you'll be amazed by how much longer the room appears.

Mirrors are a fantastic solution for small, dark rooms. They make a room appear more spacious and add natural light, both of which open up your home. Please feel free to contact us for more information about using mirrors to make your small rooms feel larger.

It can be difficult to know what style or finishes best suit your needs when doing a bathroom renovation. With the many different types and options to choose from, a project that seemed exciting in the beginning can quickly become a burdensome task.

Something relatively simple to add to your bathroom remodel that will give you that unexpected aesthetic appeal would be a glass shower enclosure. It can be something you don't think much about, but not only are these popular in style, but they also offer many other benefits concerning durability and cleanliness. Here are a few ways you may benefit from using shower enclosures:

  • Low Maintenance: This will be an investment that will offer you low maintenance and repair. By choosing a frameless shower enclosure, that means you will have fewer metal parts to collect grime and rust over the course of your shower's lifetime.
  • Easy Cleaning: This is such a wonderful benefit to choosing a frameless shower enclosure! Framed or frameless, glass is very easy to take care of and clean. Bathrooms have the potential of being one of the dirtiest rooms in your house, so it's nice to be able to cut off some of your cleaning time with the shower area.
  • Rust-Free: This is especially the case if you choose a frameless shower enclosure. With the lack of metal used, the chance of rust and mildew decrease exponentially. top-5-reasons-to-have-a-glass-top-coffee-table-arlington-va

Coffee tables come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes their large and bulky, and sometimes their smaller in size and therefore make a less demanding statement. Whatever route you are deciding to take on your coffee table decisions, you should consider adding a glass top coffee table to your options. There are many practical and design benefits when utilizing a glass top for your coffee table. A few of them are as follows:

  • By using a glass top on your coffee table, you are able to easily highlight any area rug you have underneath. Typically, the eye catches the coffee table first being as it sits higher and closer to eye level. By allowing part of the table to diminish without losing style, you are making room for more elements of your room to shine through.
  • You can easily make your own coffee table using a glass top. Depending on what type of base you use, you can purchase your cut of glass and get the exact style you are trying to achieve by accomplishing it yourself.
  • Glass is very easy to clean. As opposed to wood or other standard coffee table materials, glass is easily kept sanitary and stain free.
  • When using glass, you are able to have a completely unique base to hold your table top up. Typically, bases are not seen and therefore forgotten about. With glass, the base can be more of the focal point and add creativity to your space.

what-to-look-for-when-buying-glass-table-tops-for-your-home-falls-church-va

Glass surfaces can be a welcome addition to any living space since they have a timeless look and can be so easy to clean. If you’re interested in glass table tops for your dining room table or living room coffee table, it’s important that you take your time selecting a table top that will work well for your needs. From choosing the right thickness of the glass to different transparencies, take the time to consider the following.

Durability

The thickness of the glass plays a large part if how sturdy the table top is. In the event that the table top is impacted, it can be so reassuring to know that the glass is thick enough where it won’t shatter. Thicker glass is also less likely to be scratched, making it a good idea to look into the options for thickness.

Transparency

While many people look for glass table tops that are as transparent as possible, this may not be a good idea if you’re concerned about your dining room table being clear. Comparing your options can help give you a clear idea of what transparency would be good for wherever you’re intending on using the table top surface.

With so many variations for table tops made of glass, it’s crucial that you consider what your own personal use will be. By knowing how you plan on incorporating this surface in your home, you can be confident that it will last in the years to come. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding glass table tops and their use in your home.

If you have decided that you want to improve your bathrooms and new shower doors are in your plans, you can guarantee a positive experience by using professionals for fabrication and installation.

After you meet with a professional, decide what you are going to have done, and schedule an appointment for the installation, you should focus on preparing your home for the day of the installation.

Make a Clear Pathway to Each Bathroom

It is essential to create a clear pathway to each bathroom in your home. With shower doors that are both heavy and delicate, all it takes is one little mistake for them to get damaged or completely shatter.

If this means you need to remove some furniture, it is better to be on the safe side.

Keep Pets and Children Out of the Way

Another obstacle that professionals might have trouble with is pets and children. Although you might be able to keep them out of the way just by telling them, the safer option is to get them out of the home.

Clean Up the Bathrooms Beforehand

Since the work will be happening in the bathrooms, you need to make sure that each bathroom is clean. Removing everything that you normally keep in the shower area and clearing up enough space for a professional to move around in the bathroom is essential for a problem-free installation.

Create a Nearby Parking Location

It is ideal to not make a professional carry shower doors a long way just to get in your home. Whether you move your car out of the driveway or reserve a nearby parking spot on the curb, the closer a professional can park, the less distance they have to travel to get your shower door safely inside.

Mirrors are an essential item for every home, but they also function beautifully as decoration. If you're looking to spruce up your home, check out these mirror decorating tips to make a big impact with little effort.

Mirror Panels

If you have a long hallway or a bare wall, create mirror panels by either using custom-made mirrors that are the length of the wall, or simply placing several smaller mirrors side-by-side. You can also experiment with various tints for a more abstract feel.

Antique Mirrors

A specked mirror might not be ideal for putting on your makeup, but it looks great in a classically furnished living or dining room. The antique look adds elegance.

Go Big

Get a mirror custom made to fill up the majority of a wall, and choose a beautiful frame. It's a bold statement, but shows style and will add a feeling of space and light to any room.

Go Double

Hang two identical mirrors side-by-side to create a more dynamic and interesting look in your living space. You'll also get the benefit of more light reflection.

See double

Place a mirror to reflect your collection of candles to create the illusion of double the flames.

Create a theme

Place multiple, different shaped mirrors close to each other and connect them with a theme using the frames. For example, maybe all the frames are made of the same material, or are all the same color.

Here at Hutchins Glass & Mirror, we can meet all your mirror needs. Contact us to discuss how we can help you find the right mirrors to decorate your home.

Here at Hutchins Glass and Mirror, we have a beautiful selection of etched glass to add to your collection at home. But do you know how your etched glass was made?

There are several methods used for etching, each creating a slightly different effect.

Acid etching

Acid etching uses the colorless chemical called hexafluorosilicic acid combined with several other chemicals that are all heated. Acid etching results in a frosted look. It became popular in English pubs during the 1800s, because the frosted glass prevented people from looking in, but still let in natural light.

Glass etching cream

This is a simpler method than acid etching and popular among hobbyists. The cream is made up of chemicals that, when combined, lightly eat away at the glass parts it contacts. Glass etching cream is best used on smaller surfaces because the etching often comes out uneven.

Abrasive blasting or sandblasting

This method creates deeply etched designs and is good for larger surfaces. High pressure air mixes with sand to etch out the glass. This method is often used commercially.

Mold etching

The mold etching technique emerged in the 1920s and became popular during the Great Depression because the simplified process meant a comparatively low cost. This technique consists of etching directly into the mold so that the glass emerges with texture already in place.

Etching is done using a variety of techniques, each leading to a unique piece of glass. If you're interested in learning about the etched glass here at Hutchins Glass and Mirror, please contact us.

are-glass-top-desks-really-versatile-and-safe-enough-for-kids-rooms-bethesda-md

Choosing desks for children’s rooms can be difficult on many fronts. For one, kids’ tastes change like the wind. One minute they’re in love with Winnie the Pooh and the next they’re all about Justin Bieber. As a consequence, many desks bought when they are in kindergarten or elementary school many not transition well into high school and college years.

So, what are the options besides buying new desks every few years? May we suggest investing in glass top desks? Glass top desks are durable, timeless and gender neutral. Therefore, kids are less apt to outgrow them when compared to other types of trendy desks. Furthermore, they’re one piece of office furniture that will continue to fit into a home’s interior design long after the kids have moved out.

Plus, glass top desks are extremely customizable. So, making sure junior has enough writing and storage space isn’t going to be a problem either. In addition, ink blotters and other accessories can be customized and swapped for others in a moment’s notice. Therefore, the kids could even change the look of their desks to match the season.

And if you are worried about safety, don’t be. There are a handful of shatter-resistant materials on the market today. Ones that come to our minds are armed, tempered and laminated. However, not all of them are suitable for making children’s desks. With that in mind, the two types that tend to turn up most often are tempered and laminated.

We can explain more about them when you call, e-mail or stop by. So, to learn more about choosing glass top desks for children’s rooms, please contact us at Hutchinson Glass & Mirrors. We are experts at fabricating glass top desks for industrious people of all ages and initial consultations with our team are complimentary.

In the summertime, there is nothing that beats the view from sliding glass doors. This is especially the case with those that are accompanied with fixed panels to increase the total viewing area. However, some people still worry that sliding glass doors have more cons and pros. We’re here to tell you that with close attention to details and today’s glass sliding door materials, nothing could be further than the truth.

Sliding glass doors are often manufactured using strong, rust-resistant, air tight materials and specialty glass. The specialty glass is generally designed to accommodate specific U-factors and R-values commonly associated with regional areas. As such, the risk of condensation formation, energy loss and storm water leaks are 100% lower than they were in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

In addition, the tracks the sliding glass doors rely on are much stronger than they were just a few short years ago. And they don’t get hung up on as much as they use to either. Consequently, property owners don’t have to worry about trying to unstuck sliders or hang them back on track every other day or two. Also keep in mind that if modern-day, glass sliding doors do get knocked off of their hinges, they’re lightweight. As such, correctly the problem will barely create a sweat.

Furthermore, the locks on sliding glass doors tend to be a lot stronger than their predecessors as well. Plus, oftentimes they can be tied into smart home security systems that send property owners and police departments’ alerts at the first signs of an attempted break-in.

We’ve even seen contemporary sliders outfitted with motorized window treatments too. Therefore, they are super easy to operate from afar. Simply press a button, turn a knob or punch in a code and the window treatments will respond accordingly. To learn more about glass sliding doors and have a set custom designed to your complete satisfaction, please contact Hutchinson Glass & Mirror.

use-a-glass-table-top-to-maximize-small-space-silver-spring-md

Living in small apartments is common for city dwellers, but there are plenty of ways to maximize your square footage and make it feel spacious. Glass table tops, for example, are stylish, efficient, and meet many needs. Even in the smallest living rooms, you can add a glass table without making the space feel cluttered. Here are some ideas:

Surface area

Go with a two-tier table to maximize surface area, with a glass top tier. You can use the glass table top as a conventional coffee table; it can hold coasters, a candle, photographs, a book, or simply leave it spare if that's what you prefer.

Get creative with the bottom tier. Fan out those back issues of your favorite magazines that have been accumulating dust in the corner. You can also pile books if you're short on bookshelf space.

For those who like to buy items in bulk but lack storage space: find a straw or fabric box for your extra items, and make sure it has a lid. Place the box on the bottom tier. If the box is shallow enough, it's like creating a third tier. You can still place books or magazines on top of the box. Get a round box for a square table, and a square box for a round table.

Illusion of more space

Your glass table top will reflect whatever is placed on the surface. This gives the illusion of a more spacious living area. If you're worried that placing a coffee table in a small living room will feel cramped, the illusion of less density will help.

Customizable

Customizing glass table tops are easy and common, so you can create a table that is perfect for your space. Customize your table to fit the exact length of wall nook, or fit perfectly in the center of your seating arrangement.

At Hutchins Glass and Mirror, we can help you find the ideal glass table top for your home. Contact us to get started.

Remove Dirt and Dust Particles before Cleaning

It may be tempting to get right to cleaning when you want to clean your mirrors, but doing this will make it harder to get a squeaky clean look as you will unfortunately be working against your efforts.

Whether you use a duster or a soft cloth, make sure to give your mirrors a good wiping to eliminate all dirt and dust particles, which prepares the mirrors for a sufficient cleaning.

Get Rid of Water Stains with White Vinegar

As much effort as you put into cleaning your windows, there may be water stains from before that just will not come out, regardless of how much cleaning solution you use.

Fortunately, you can get rid of these water stains by using 100% white vinegar.

why-glass-shower-doors-are-the-best-choice-for-seniors-fairfax-vaIf you are looking to make some changes to your bathroom to increase its safety, your shower is an important area of concern because showers get used so often. It is vital for it to be a safe experience to avoid getting injured while showering or trying to get in or out of the shower.

With this in mind, you will find that glass shower doors are the safest choice.

Necessary for Low Clearance or Walk-in Showers

Installing a low clearance or walk-in shower means you need to have a shower door, as opposed to shower curtains that generally work best for bath and shower combinations.

Having such a low clearance shower makes it a lot safer to get in and out, which is very helpful for those that are no longer able to safely step into a shower with a fairly high clearance.

Durable Glass that Can Be Used for Stability

When you get a glass shower door, the tempered glass that it is made from keeps it very strong, which also makes it durable enough to knock into or lean on to get some stability without a problem.

It is not possible to lean on a curtain, and you never know when you might need extra stability.

Reduced Cleaning Responsibilities

Another benefit of glass shower doors is that you will not have to spend as much time or have a tough time with cleaning. For instance, you can apply a polymer coating, which inhibits mold growth, and you can use a squeegee with a long attachment to clean the shower door after taking a shower.

For safety reasons, a glass shower door should be your top choice.

glass-top-coffee-tables-create-the-illusion-of-a-raging-river-and-more-germantown-mdDid you know that glass top coffee tables are not only beautiful; they can give cramped living quarters the illusion of space and more? It’s true as long as they’re designed with spatial concepts in mind. In art, space is conveyed in many ways and similar may be said for coffee table designs. The most common methodologies involve color, size and overlay as well as linear, two and three-point perspective. The list of other methods includes, but isn’t reigned in by concepts like spatial complexity, constructed space, textures, atmospheric and amplified perspective.

Let’s take this see-thru trunk on Pinterest as a prime example. Despite being large and functional, it doesn’t seem to overcrowd the living area. That’s because it’s see-thru of course. The items strategically placed on top of the glass trunk and the glistening, gold hardware also seem to be floating in the air, which adds something more to the space. Undoubtedly, it isn’t the only way to use glass to create an illusion in the living room. For proof, check out this glass river tabletop and galvanized tub table, also found on Pinterest. Just imagine how stunning the glass river table would look placed on top of a deep blue carpet or other flooring that sports a water-colored hue. As for the glass-topped bucket, that would look good in a number of settings too.

At Hutchinson Glass & Mirror, we can help take whatever inspires you and turn it into a glass top coffee table that fits perfectly with your plans. So, it doesn’t matter if you want your coffee table to look like a seaman’s chest, raging river or tiny garden. We can provide glass fabrication and installation services that will suit your needs. install-wall-mirrors-without-damaging-your-apartment-walls-centreville-vaAdding wall mirrors to an apartment can be an excellent way to imitate the look of larger space, brighten a room, and add an attractive feature to your home. While wall mirrors come in all sizes, they all need to be hung carefully to avoid damaging the walls of your rental space. To get started with hanging a new wall mirror, consider the following tips.

Start by Locating the Studs

While smaller sizes wall mirrors can be mounted almost anywhere, it becomes a bit more challenging when working with heavier mirrors. In order for a large mirror to be mounted without damaging the walls, you’ll need to use a stud finder to locate the sturdy beams to hang the mirror from.

Rely on Anchor Screws

Anchor screws are one of the best ways to ensure that you’ll be able to hang heavier mirrors without any worry of them slipping from the wall due to their weight. In fact, some of these screws can support well over 40-pounds, allowing you to hang mirrors of all sizes.

Take Care When Removing the Mirror

If you’ve had a wall mirror hung for a long time and you’re ready to remove it, either due to a change in interior design or you’re moving, it’s important to be careful while removing the mirrors. After taking down the mirror, you’ll need to slowly remove any screws and mounting to avoid damaging the walls.

Wall mirrors can look wonderful in an apartment, but you’ll want to be careful during the mounting so that your apartment walls are kept in great shape. If you’re currently on the market for a wall mirror, feel free to contact us.

useful-tips-for-keeping-your-glass-top-desk-spotless-herndon-vaWhen looking for a desk that can help maintain a minimal and clean finish in your office space, glass surfaces remain to be one of the most popular options. Not only does a glass top desk help keep a space looking airy, it can also help draw attention to artwork or electronic gadgets in the room if you would like. In order to keep your desk pristine, look into the following tips.

Invest in Organizational Tools

Clutter can quickly make a space feel messy and make you unproductive, as a result. In order for your desk to stay neat, buy some organizational tools for the desk and surrounding shelving. Small boxes and bowls can help store everything from excess printer ink to paper clips.

Keep Any Cables Organized

Cables can make a space feel chaotic, making it a good idea to choose wireless electronics. For things such as a wired keyboard and mouse, you’ll want to buy cable management tools to keep all these cords tucked away underneath the desk.

Make Use of Glass Cleaners

The surface of your glass top desk can quickly become smudged and looking messy if you’re not careful. To keep the desk looking great, you’ll want to keep some wipes or spray cleaners nearby to wipe away any smudges as soon as they’re noticed. This will help keep the desk looking as clean as possible and ensure that your office looks neat.

If you’re interested in purchasing a glass top desk for its modern and minimal appearance, please feel free to contact us to hear more about our selection.

modernize-your-rental-home-with-frameless-shower-doors-herndon-vaAlthough some property owners may decide to avoid fitting into any one particular style with their rental property as to avoid turning off potential tenants from being interested, investing in a modern look is generally a safe bet due to how desirable it is as a style. From aluminum-framed windows to good lighting throughout the entire home, there are many ways to achieve a modern look, and adding frameless shower doors brings you closer to reaching this goal.

Cater to Those Looking for a Modern Home

Even when you lose a few tenants that are not interested in a modern home at all, the fact that you will simultaneously increase the interest of others, especially knowing that these individuals are willing to pay more on the monthly rental rate to get their hands on a modern rental property makes it worthwhile.

An Attractive Appearance

Frameless shower doors look great, and they make bathrooms look clean, open, and organized. It is especially important to keep an organized bath and shower when you have these doors as a clutter of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles can have a negative impact on the overall look.

However, when showing to potential tenants, your rental property’s bathrooms will look amazing.

Sturdy with Tempered Glass

It is understandable to be concerned about safety issues, especially with such a large piece of glass that will consistently be opened and closed on a regular basis. Fortunately, these doors have tempered glass, which make it difficult to break, and thus giving you the confidence you need to invest in them.

If you are looking to modernize your rental home, contact us to learn more about frameless shower doors and how this addition can help you in accomplishing your goal.

interesting-ways-to-use-glass-table-tops-in-your-home-frederick-mdWhether you’re looking into purchasing glass table tops for a dining room table or living room coffee table, you’ll benefit by getting a large surface that can look great in places big and small. Many people are drawn to the look of glass tables due to their minimal appearance and ability to fit in nicely in smaller places. In order for you to be as satisfied as possible with your glass table, look into the following ways to use it.

Place Photographs Underneath

Most glass tables contain a panel underneath the glass for items to be slipped. A clever way to personalize the table is to display some favorite photographs. Changing out the photos throughout the year can help add some personal art to your home and be easy to care for.

Lay Out a Large Sheet of Wallpaper

If you would prefer something a bit more traditional, you may want a favorite color or pattern to be displayed under the surface. For this reason, you may want to look into getting wallpaper to lay out underneath the table.

Display a Collection

From seashells to bottle caps, the glass table top can be ideal for placing a small collection underneath. Any items that are short in height can fit in nicely underneath the table, making it a good idea to look into which items you enjoy collecting and would like to put on display in your home.

Taking care of a glass table requires some effort for it to stay streak-free and to avoid any cracks, but the unique appearance is worth the amount of care. If you’re interested in buying glass table tops for your home, please contact us.

mirror-feng-shui-college-park-mdIn Feng-Shui, mirrors represent the potential for increased wealth, health, and happiness. Mirrors hold a lot of power because they create a double of whatever they are reflecting. Next time you are in the mood to make some changes in your home, keep in mind these tips for ideal mirror placement.

Bedroom

If you find your sleep quality lacking, it might have something to do with your bedroom mirror. Mirrors bounce energy, which can keep your mind bouncing as well. Ideally, put your bedroom mirror in a closet. If that isn't an option, just make sure you can't see your own reflection from bed.

Bathroom

Conventional Feng-Shui dictates that there should be no mirrors in the bathroom, however that feels extreme for our modern, western standards. If anything, make sure your mirror does not reflect the toilet because that represents draining energy. Additionally, having a full length mirror on the outside of your bathroom door will help the chi flow from the bathroom into the rest of the house.

Living/Dining Room

Check that your living room mirrors reflect pleasant images rather than clutter or sharp edges from walls or furniture (known as poison arrows, sharp edges will cut through the energy). Do you have a beautiful view? Place a mirror so it can reflect and double the beauty. Hang a mirror in the dining room to foster abundance by reflecting food.

At Hutchison Glass & Mirror, we can help you find new mirrors for your home. Contact us for more information.

use-wall-mirrors-to-stage-your-home-for-showing-to-potential-buyers-frederick-mdSelling a home is a delicate process that requires careful planning to do in a realistic time frame. If a home is not properly staged, potential buyers who are looking at other homes will simply choose the properties that are displayed in an appealing and organized manner.

It is vital to stage the home, and one way is to invest in wall mirrors throughout the home.

Over the Fireplace

If you have a fireplace in your home, you can improve the space greatly by hanging a wall mirror above. The room or area of space that has a fireplace should feel warm and welcoming, and this is exactly what the addition of a wall mirror will help to accomplish.

In the Bathroom

When you have a bathroom mirror that catered to your own style, which may not fall into the neutral category, your best option is to switch it out for a neutral wall mirror that allows potential buyers to visualize the bathroom being theirs, as opposed to the current homeowner’s.

By the Front Entrance

While a wall mirror works quite nicely by the front entrance, to achieve an ideal look, you should place a mirror above a table or tall shoe rack that is close to the front door. A wall mirror is a great way to improve the appearance, but it also makes an excellent upgrade because it provides functionality to those leaving. It allows them to look at the mirror and make sure they are ready to go outside and tackle the day.

Above the Dresser

Another place where a wall mirror fits in well is above the dresser in the master bedroom. It makes sense because it is the spot where people get ready and a mirror makes it easy to fit and match properly.

shower-doors-the-best-option-for-your-rental-home-springfield-va

Whether you are renting out a property for the first time or you are in-between tenants, making the right improvements will help with renting the property quickly and fetching a higher rental rate.

In regard to the bathroom, there are many upgrades available, and one of them is deciding whether you want to have a shower curtain or shower door, which can change the look and function significantly.

With a rental property, you will benefit most with shower doors for several reasons.

Modern Appearance

It is possible for a shower rod and curtain to look nice, but presenting this to a potential tenant is not going to be as impressive as showing off a brand new glass shower door.

Creating a modern appearance in excellent for catering to those wanting a new look, and it will help you succeed in charging more for rent to the individuals that are interested in this particular style.

Protect the Flooring

If a tenant has children or is simply not used to showering with a curtain, it is highly likely that each shower will create water puddles on the bathroom floor. Although this is okay when it is cleaned up afterwards, prolonged and repeated exposure can lead to rotted flooring, which is a major and expensive problem.

Simple Cleaning

Maintaining a shower curtain is difficult because there is no easy way to keep it clean. It collects dirt and grime over time, and eventually it needs to be replaced. However, cleaning a shower door is as simple as using a squeegee after every shower, and then doing a deep clean every few months.

If you want an easy-to-maintain and good-looking bathroom, a solid upgrade is a shower door.

4-ways-your-rooms-can-benefit-from-wall-mirrors-fairfax-va

From small to large, antique or custom-made, wall mirrors serve many benefits other than helping you check your hair. Mirrors are a simple way to dress up any room in your home. These tips below can help you use mirrors effectively around your home.

  • Make your rooms seem larger.

A large mirror can make a room look much more open and spacious. Instead of being faced with a blank wall, a mirror reflects the room behind you into sight. This technique is wonderful for small rooms, or rooms with dark walls. A frameless mirror will amplify this effect, as the lack of harsh border between wall and glass helps the open effect. Use large wall mirrors in social spaces like living and dining rooms to create a welcoming and spacious room.

  • Use mirrors to amplify light.

A mirror that catches sunlight from a window can give the impression of even more space as it reflect the light around the room. Use mirrors to brighten up a space that might otherwise seem dim and stifled. This works especially well in bathrooms that have small or no windows. Instead of getting a small medicine cabinet, a mirror the length of the counter-top with good lighting can turn a cramped, dark room into a refreshing and well-lit space. Aside from windows, this effect also works with other light sources, such as a small mirrors near candles or light fixtures.

  • Place mirrors where they can actually be used.

When placing mirrors in the home, don’t forget their actual purpose - to reflect an image. Generally, functional mirrors are resigned to the bathroom. But think of the other places in your home where a mirror would serve both form and function. A large mirror in an entryway not only opens up a foyer as a welcoming space for guest entering the home, but can let you get a final glance over your appearance as you leave. Walk-in closets can benefit immensely from a mirror for the same reasons. Bring the feeling of the gym home with large mirrors in your work-out room. Mirrors can find use in many areas of the home outside of the bathroom.

  • Treat mirrors like art

Mirrors themselves can be treated like artwork. Pick a frame that compliments the decor of the room, whether it’s fun and colorful for a child’s bedroom, or one of rustic aged wood for a dining room. A collection of small mirrors arranged artfully on the wall provide the benefits of a large mirror where one may not fit. Small mirrors can also be intermixed on a wall with art pieces beautifully.

Almost any room can benefit from the reflective properties of a quality mirror. They are an easy way to bring light, space, and art into a room, even in the smallest of spaces. Please contact us here at Hutchinson Glass & Mirror to find out how we can help you bring mirrors into your home.

In the 1800s, interior designers started to incorporate etched glass into their residential and commercial designs. As such, it was prominent in French Rococo-style interiors. At the time, the style was very distinctive and as it spread to other countries, modifications were made accordingly. French designers often preferred etching asymmetrical patterns on to mirrors and windows. It was commonplace for those patterns to feature S and C curves as well as rocaille ornamentation. For those etched glass fans that have never heard the term “rocaille” before, please allow us to explain:

It refers to shell work that first appeared in the early 1700s. By shell work, we are referring to images that resemble marine crustaceans. They were used a lot throughout the country as well as by designers in other regions, like Germany, England, Spain and Italy. The shell designs added to the etched glass designs varied but they were often found in similar places. The list of places includes, but isn’t constrained to churches, grottos, castles and manor houses.

Sometimes the shell imagery was paired with representations of other items found in the natural world. For example, they may have been placed alongside of sea grass, leaves, reeds, water lilies and other flower blossoms. Other times, they may have been carved next to marine mammals, mermaids and mythical sea creatures or Deities. So as you can see, it is possible to come up with a wide variety of etched glass designs and still have them fit into rooms decorated with Rococo-style furnishings.

At Hutchinson Glass & Mirror, we can help buyers come up with inimitable, etched glass designs for their homes or work spaces. The designs may be ultra feminine, completely masculine or gender neutral based on buyers’ preferences. With that said, to speak with an etched glass expert about having a custom piece manufactured for Rococo-style interiors, please contact us today.

a3fe66728906c623f76370bc7970f860smallAt first blush, it may seem like there’s not much to say about the materials used to make glass table tops. After all, it’s glass right? Well, as long-time glass table top manufacturers, we can tell you that nothing is further from the truth. Although glass has been around commercially since before 2000 B.C., it has changed much over the years. This is especially the case when it comes to the glass used in table manufacturing.

Not just any old piece of glass can be used to make table tops. It has to be strong, thick and shatter resistant or shatter proof. This knowledge was gained over time and used to perfect glass table top offerings. For example, in the 1960s, interior designers liked to use glass mixed with iron oxide to make table tops because of its aesthetic value. Before that time period, people liked to use everything from mosaic, lead crystal and sheet to frosted glass.

Today, glass table top standards are set by ASTM International. Their standards are designed to help keep consumers safe. As such, they dictate that safety glass should ideally be used to manufacture glass table tops. It is widely considered to be the best material to use in furniture production because it doesn’t shatter like untreated glass. Plus, it can be just as attractive as decorative glass. Nonetheless, we have seen table tops made with annealed glass, which shatters differently too. It has a tendency to break into big, sharp, triangular pieces whereas safety glass does not. It tends to break into dull, small rectangular or square-shaped pieces. Thus, it is less apt to cut people in the event of an accident.

To learn more about the different types of glass and how it is fashioned into custom table tops, please contact us today. We have been working with all sorts of glass for over 90-years. Custom and standard table top work is just one of our many fabrication specialties. We also do installation work and introductory consultations are complimentary.

ab08397eee41d768180d3750de341641134While many people think of large pieces of artwork when they begin to look into getting a focal piece for a wall, a mirror can be a stylish alternative. Not only do wall mirrors come in a large variety of styles, they’re also able to reflect light to help encourage natural light in your home. In order for you to be happy with your new focal piece, consider the following tricks for wall mirrors.

Position the Mirrors Strategically

The height that you hang a mirror at can make a big difference in the statement it makes. While you want the mirror to be eye-level, that can be difficult when working with a large mirror. Trying out different placements before hanging can ensure that you’re happy with the positioning.

Find Mirrors with Interesting Frames

One of the best parts of using a wall mirror as a focal piece in your home is the endless options for frames. Taking a look at the different wall mirror frames with the rest of your homes style in mind can help a lot in leading you towards mirrors that will fit right in.

Consider What is Being Reflected

The reflection of your new wall mirror can make a big difference in the final look. It’s recommended to get some natural light reflecting in the mirror, along with avoiding any clutter in the reflection.

Bigger is Often Better

If you’re trying to use a wall mirror as a focal piece, you’ll need to take special care regarding the size. It’s often best to go for the biggest wall mirror possible so that it can be eye-catching and stand out in a room.

If you’re interested in purchasing a wall mirror for your home, please contact us.

37b003efaf279ac1b20b1d09a03d8ac9With all the different types of countertop materials to choose from, it can be difficult to choose the perfect finish for your home. Quartz, granite, laminate, wood, metal and marble are the materials that generally come to mind, especially for kitchens. However, these aren't the only types of materials, glass is also used to great effect. In fact, for both kitchens and bathrooms, glass countertops are one of the best options, for a variety of reasons.

Elegance

In the past, the most elegant homes were often outfitted with granite or marble countertops. These materials are considered high-end luxuries that last. Today, glass countertops share the stage with these materials, and they are showing up in some of the most beautiful homes in the world. Although they are completely functional, they are also unique pieces of art that express the good taste and individuality of the homeowner.

Variety

With a plethora of textures from smooth to wavy to bubbled and anything else you can think of. In fact, it is so flexible, you can easily create a stunning look with this simple material. You can combine different types of glass, in any color you like, layer it, or use a single color. What's more, you don't have to settle for a straight-edged countertop like everyone else. Glass can be formed to curve and bend in ways that other materials simply cannot. That means you can design a one-of-a-kind countertop that no one else will ever have.

Light

One of the coolest things about glass countertops is the variety of ways that they can be lit. Some people prefer to light the glass with colored lights from within. Others use task lighting to shine down on the countertops to enhance the colors and textures within. These approaches are great for kitchens and bathrooms alike. Another idea is to combine glass countertops with glass-fronted upper cabinetry for a bright, open kitchen design. Even without special lighting techniques, glass reflects light and gives the room a lighter feeling than marble or granite.

Non-Porous

Glass naturally resists bacteria, making it an excellent choice for kitchen and bathroom countertops. Nothing will permeate the surface either, so you won't have to worry about stains from food or other products ruining your new counters. It's a simple matter of wiping up any spills and they instantly go away. Even better, you never have to worry about sealing the surface like you do with other countertop materials because glass stays non-porous forever.

If you're considering glass countertops for your bathroom or kitchen, congratulations, you're making a good choice. If you need any help along the way, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'll be more than happy to answer any questions you and we'll help you choose the right glass for your application.

36d965bd570cb11c0457da342b62350aDespite persistent warnings, more than 40 million Americans continue to smoke cigarettes or cigars on a routine basis. Not only is it an addictive, costly habit that can drain their bank accounts and cause illness, it will leave behind a pervasive, harmful residue too. It’s made up of more than 6,500 chemicals, which are often extremely hard to remove from bathroom mirrors, glass surfaces and shower doors. However, the task is not impossible to complete, providing that the right products and procedures are in place.

One of the easiest ways to remove tobacco smoke residue from bathroom mirrors and shower doors is to apply steam. Even though the residue is oily, the steam will soften it up to the point where it can simply be wiped away with a clean cloth. However, not all of us have ready access to high quality steamers. Plus, as we mentioned before, the residue contains many chemicals and not all of them are water-soluble. That said, household rubbing alcohol will typically dissolve some of the smoke residue too. It is ideal for removing smoke residue that contains chemicals like vinyl chloride, polonium, lead, butane and toluene.

Other common cleaners that may help freshen up shower doors coated with smoke residue are white vinegar, ammonia, degreaser, oxygenated and chlorine bleach. However, they shouldn’t be used without hesitation. Why? Those types of cleaners give off strong fumes and may damage certain surfaces. For instance, some commercially available containers of bleach are not as pure as others. As such, they could turn plastic shower doors yellow or cause decorative elements to fade. People who own glass shower doors should take heed too because bleach also has the power to create etching and discoloration. Therefore, use them at your own risk. To learn more about repairing or replacing nicotine stained shower doors and mirrors, please contact us today.

7da3f2de13d73a8e47853301a8a84fe0It’s coming up on a new year and there’s never been a better time to freshen up homes and businesses with wall mirrors. In our experience, adding them really helps set the mood and shows a willingness on the part of the building’s owner to change direction. That said, our custom mirror fabricators and installers have come up with a short list of their best tips for selecting and positioning new wall mirrors in 2015. Here it is:

Always keep the rules of Feng Shui in mind when choosing a location for your new wall mirror. The most important one is to place the mirror where it can reflect all of the great things that you want more of in your life during 2015. For instance, if you want more time with your family, place the mirror where it will reflect the images of the ones you love the most.

Furthermore, remember that a wall mirror’s best attribute is the ability to reflect light and imagery in interesting ways. Therefore, keep in mind the basic rules of reflection too. For example, flat mirrors do not alter an image but convex and concave ones do just that. Hence, that’s why mirrors in amusement parks’ fun houses traditionally look the way that they do.

Next, if you plan on hanging a new wall mirror over top of furniture, do two things. First, choose a frame that matches something about the furnishings closest to it. Second, make sure that the mirror’s size, symmetry and hanging height are in harmony with the furnishings as well. If you have any doubts about being able to achieve those things, relay those concerns to our wall mirror fabricators. They may be able to provide personalized guidance.

Similar may be said about selecting a wall mirror’s shape. Because we custom create mirrors, it is possible to go beyond the normal squares, circles, rectangles and ovals. Just be cognizant that Feng Shui principles state objects with severe angles and points should be used sparingly and only in certain situations.

To ask our custom fabricators questions and learn more about how adding the right wall mirror can give people a new outlook on life, please contact us today. We are open weekdays and on Saturdays by special appointment only. So if you e-mail your wall mirror question in, you may expect to receive an answer on one of our normal business days.

wfhgfiergnfhnfcwiwWorking from home is something that a small percentage of people experience, and with self-employment comes the need to have a place to work at home. In this case, you need to have the right furnishings to be as productive as possible, and one piece that is often used is a desk.

Although new furnishings are not necessarily going to make you do your self-employed work, a glass top desk can help you accomplish these goals by providing numerous benefits.

Custom-Sized to Your Exact Needs

Whether you have a large office or a small corner in an extra bedroom, a glass desk can be custom-sized to meet the exact measurements that you have to work with. It is a wise investment because a glass top desk will give you as much desk space as possible, but without taking up too much room.

Helps to Make a Modern Look

Depending on the décor of your workspace, a glass desk can either fit in great or not well at all. For modern workspaces, a glass top desk is one of the best choices available as it adds to the overall look. Although a traditional-styled home may not match perfectly with a glass top desk, you can still benefit from the fact that this type of desk makes the space feel a lot larger than it is in reality.

Lightweight for Easy Moving

If you move your computer around frequently, or you know that you will be moving in the near future, a glass top desk is an excellent option because it is made of lightweight material, but is also quite sturdy.

Planning out a glass top desk can take a long time for your home office, so contact us and let us help you make the best decision based on your particular wants and needs.

smallOver the years, so many Americans have fallen under the spell of glass top coffee tables and one type in particular, Herman Miller’s Noguchi. The company was able to produce the popular piece in the 1940s thanks to Isamu Noguchi, who was a revered Japanese artist at the time. He’s the same man who later went on to create some of the most famous outdoor art in the world, including NYC’s Red Cube and the Sunken Garden. In the years that followed, the public’s love affair with the glass topped table faded briefly, only to resume in the 1980s.

Understandably, all of those years were not kind to some of the famous artist’s glass top coffee tables. As such, there are many tables out there in need of a serious facelift. If your Noguchi coffee table is one of them, don’t worry. At Hutchinson Glass & Mirror, we can repair or replace its glass top to exact specifications. It doesn’t matter if your original one was outfitted with 7/8-inch or ¾-inch thick, plate glass. Our custom fabricators can easily handle both types.

Speaking of which, if you have a replica Noguchi table and want to redesign it in a way that deviates from the norm, we can do that too. For example, we can etch the image of Japanese roses or other designs into the glass or add a bit of frosting. We can also transform its look with back-painted glass or other adornments. Just set up a complimentary consultation and let us know what you want the glass top to look like. Once we have a clear idea of your vision and have had a chance to look at the coffee table’s wooden base, we can manufacture the glass table top of your dreams. To learn more about customizing or repairing glass top coffee tables like the Noguchi, please contact us today.

48214832After you get out of the shower, the last thing you want to do is wipe up a bunch of water on the floor. Unfortunately, that is what usually happens to people who have only a curtain to contain the water from the shower. Additionally, shower curtains are notorious for growing mold because they are wet much of the time. Taking a shower is more relaxing when you have shower glass doors installed. They are easier to clean than curtains and contain the water better. These are the most practical reasons to trade in your shower curtain for a real glass door.

Bring Beauty to Your Bathroom

Another common reason for homeowners to choose glass doors for their shower is that they are simply more attractive. You can choose from a variety of patterns and designs, such as etched flowers or colored glass. The glass doors also give your bathroom a more welcoming feel. If you ever sell your home, keep in mind that many buyers consider the bathroom and kitchen more than other rooms in the house. From a buyer's perspective, glass doors make a bathroom more attractive and they won't have to spend money on remodeling.

ab08397eee41d768180d3750de341641134There is no denying that 18th century French craftsmen were at the top of their games. During that time period, they produced amazing, ornate, gilded pieces of furniture and trumeau wall mirrors. Thus, it’s no wonder that so many people consider it to be the country’s Golden Age of Home Furnishings. There’s just one obstacle for those modern day Americans that want to surround themselves in antique furnishings and wall mirrors from 18th century France. Purchasing authentic pieces is cost prohibitive. Good thing buying customized replicas is not.

At Hutchinson Glass & Mirror, we appreciate the beauty and functionality of 18th century French designs. There is just no denying that they were stunning works of art. Plus, we have the skills needed to help create customized trumeau wall mirrors to suit. So the only difference between our trumeau wall mirror replicas and authentic ones will be the amount of flaws. After all, antique mirrors are known to have a lot of them and our replicas are flawless. Some of the most common flaws that you’ll find in existing antique mirrors from the 18th century are chipped frames and bubbles or dark spots on the glass.

If you are not quite sure how to choose or install trumeau wall mirrors, don’t worry. Our fabrication and installation experts are ready to provide complimentary consultations to those that need them. In our experience, many trumeau wall mirrors from the period were long, narrow and rectangular in shape. They characteristically featured great, hand-carved detailing at the top with additional flourishes added to the bottom and sides. Some of the elements often included in those carved sections were scallops, florets, flora, bows, ribbons and images of select fauna.

To learn more about trumeau wall mirrors and how to go about having one made for your home or business, please contact us at Hutchinson Glass & Mirror today. Oh, and by the way, in addition to creating replicas of 18th century wall mirrors, we can help create companion pieces too. Examples include, but don’t end with medicine cabinets, shower panels, glass railings and backpainted glass backsplashes.

We've had some customers who've enjoyed customizing their homes to a point where a glass door and walls become an unusually fashionable choice for a room. And it's something we can create for you if you've had a similar idea while designing the interior of your home.

How can a glass door and walls partitioning a room work in interior design? You might be surprised at how effective it can be, especially when you have valuable things in a room you don't necessarily want people being close to.

Glass Walls as a Way to Display Room Items

Collectors of antiques or other valuables might want to build a small room with a glass door and walls so visitors can see the items in the room without getting up close. Since those items are resting on shelves, you might have kids around during a gathering that could otherwise mean something falling off and getting broken.

With the glass walls, you can showcase those items without worry of something being damaged. By locking the glass door, you can also keep anyone from walking in. In that regard, it almost works like window shopping.

Keeping Transparent Walls to Keep an Eye on Things

Perhaps you want a room where you can go work while still wanting to keep an eye on your kids or other parts of the house. With a room utilizing glass walls, you have a sound-proof area while still giving you a chance to watch your kids playing in another room. It's an idea that should arguably be incorporated into offices rather than cubicle walls. Along with customization, you can easily add a curtain to the glass walls to use during times when you really do want privacy.

Contact us here at Hutchinson Glass & Mirror to find out more about custom projects like this and so many more variations. Ideas are limitless when it comes to using glass and mirrors in your furniture and home design. Let us show you how effective it can be in bringing something different.

e290b588e3d615061f19e2362dc7346cWhen remodeling your bathroom, there will be many decisions you will have to make. From fixtures to design elements, you will have to decide which pieces will work best with your new layout. One such decision you will have to make will be in regards to what type of shower doors you would like to have installed. If you are unsure what option will work best in your bathroom, here are just a few of the benefits of using frameless shower doors for your new shower.

Beautiful

One of the greatest benefits of upgrading to frameless doors for your shower is the beautiful, modern look it can bring to your bathroom. The sleek, elegant look these doors can bring will be the perfect complement to your newly remodeled bathroom. If you have yet to have frameless shower doors in a home in which you have lived, you will be astonished by the extent to which removing these doorframes can enhance the look of your shower.

Resale

Anything that adds to the look and modernity of your home can help to increase its value. Frameless shower doors can not only increase the value of your home, but they can also help your home to look more appealing to prospective homebuyers, which can make it easier to sell. This can make frameless shower doors a sound investment in your bathroom remodel.

Maintenance

Another benefit of frameless shower doors is that they are traditionally much easier to maintain than framed shower doors. This is primarily due to the fact that there is no track and frame in which dirt, grime, and calcium can collect. This can help to reduce the steps necessary to clean your shower. Furthermore, these tracks can begin to deteriorate and corrode over time due to water exposure, which can cause these elements to need to be replaced. Thusly, frameless shower doors can save you money and hassle over time.

Of the many decisions you will have to make during your bathroom remodel, the choice for your shower door should be the easiest as there are numerous benefits of frameless shower doors. Contact us to find out more about the benefits of frameless shower doors.

hutchinsonblogHere at Hutchinson Glass & Mirror, we provide not only standard mirror items, but also create custom mirrors for those who want something different. While mirrored shelves may not necessarily be offbeat, it may be only for some select tastes. Nevertheless, when you know why people use them, you may want to try them yourself. It has everything to do with lighting both artificially and naturally in helping to illuminate items you have on display.

In the realm of artificial lighting, a mirrored shelf can help throw light at angles you couldn't achieve otherwise. Many people now use strip lighting that can fit into the small niches of a shelf unit. With these little LED lights, light can be better reflected thanks to using mirrors. If you've ever experimented with lighting using mirrors, you know how it can create some interesting effects.

This helps when you want to display an item and you have specialized lighting to bring out specific details.

The same applies to natural lighting if you depend on that lighting from nearby windows. As many discover using glass furniture we design for them, the ability to reflect natural light from windows is a real asset to a room without having to depend on using lamps.

Then, a mirrored shelving unit can do another thing that much larger mirrors frequently help with in many homes.

Giving the Illusion of More Space

The greatest gift mirrors give to people living in small spaces is providing the illusion that there's more space there than there really is. Those who use our wall mirrors see the strongest advantages to this for small rooms. But mirrored shelves can provide the same effect. If you have just a small shelf unit with a few items, it can give the impression you have more shelf space than meets the eye. Along with reflecting items sitting on the shelves, it can fill in additional empty space.

Contact us here at Hutchinson Glass & Mirror to find out more about custom projects we can do like mirrored shelves. We want you to see the advantages of how mirrors in your home can help create better lighting and a better psychological feel to free you from feeling claustrophobic.

1068088ae9aee592dd18cba4e627af90 2 You probably have mirrors in all the expected indoor spaces: in the bathrooms to help with cleaning your face, by the dresser for putting on makeup, and by the entry for one last look before you head for work. Well these reflective accessories can work their magic just as well outdoors.

  • Increase your foliage. Are your plants and flowers looking a bit sparse because of your brown thumb or you just don't have a lot of space? Put a mirror behind your favorite flowering plants or next to masses of container gardens and you'll instantly double the size of your foliage. If you have a blank wall outside, mounting a mirror on it will also increase the visual size of your outdoors.

  • Keep visitors occupied. If you put a mirror just outside your front door, you give visitors a chance to fix themselves up before they ring your doorbell. They also won't mind if you take longer-than-usual to let them in because they'll be too busy looking at themselves.

  • Adjust the sun. Does the path of the sun across your property brighten some outdoor spaces and leave others in the dark? Adding some artfully angled mirrors can reflect the sun's light into the gloomier corners of your patio or garden. These reflective sheets don't have to be mounted on wall. They can also be integrated into plant stands and outdoor tables.

Naturally, such outdoor mirrors need to be waterproof and be mounted with materials that resist the weather. Please contact us and we'll be happy to provide more information.

ab08397eee41d768180d3750de3428ea.jpg 22Decorating the perimeter of wall mirrors with pine boughs, spray snow, flocking spray, spray glitter and spray frost is an age old tradition that we suspect many people will continue this December. Although there is no denying that it will give rooms a festive look, it could also really make the mirror’s surface hard to clean once January 2nd rolls around. Mercifully, there are products that will remove spray snow, pine sap and the like from glass.

Believe it or not, spray snow, frost and glitter tend to be harder to remove from wall mirrors that pine sap and other stains. That’s because most of the sprays are impacted by changes in temperature. So removing them from mirrors located near drafty areas or heat sources may take time and several different methods.

For the most part, using rubbing alcohol on the sprayed area will help cut through the muck. But it can also mark up other materials (e.g. wood frames). Thus, use a lint-free cloth that has been moistened with the alcohol to clean up the mess rather than a spray. If the cloth method doesn’t work, think about temporarily removing the mirror from the wall and attacking the mess aggressively with a plastic ice scraper and a quick dip in a basin filled with pure ammonia.

If sap from pine bough decorations is also present, you may need to use products like Cleanup Batter Pine Tar and Ball Mark Remover, mineral spirits, nail polish and Goo Gone. In a pinch, mayonnaise, and peanut butter may work too. However, they are apt to leave an oily residue behind, which can generally be removed with the rubbing alcohol.

Finally, there is the option of rewriting your family’s holiday tradition and investing in etched mirrors instead. Nowadays, upon special request, they may be permanently decorated with all sorts of holiday images. To make such requests and obtain festive wall mirrors for your home in time, please contact us today.

e8cccb0fadb6cf835a8907966cce79abfor blog 2jpgEtched glass first emerged in the mid-19th century as a way to hide patrons in pubs while still allowing natural light to enter a drinking establishment. It wasn't long before Edwardian and Victorian homes took on this idea with glass etchings appearing on everything from mirrors and windows to glassware.

Glass etchings continue to be a popular way to decorate windows and mirrors. This technique involves scraping or scratching a piece of glass in selected spots to create interesting designs. As a result, frosted designs are produced on glass. If you’re considering glass etching for a window or mirror, here’s what is involved.

Features of Etched Glass

Unlike decals or frosted mirrors, an etching doesn't peel, fade or flake. Regardless of how often you clean your mirror, the design or image won’t change its appearance as it’s permanent.

However, its look can be affected by the angle in which it’s viewed and the light in a room. Although it’s not truly three dimensional, a glass edging does have more than two dimensions when looking at it.

Ideas for Etched Glass Mirrors

One of the most common glass etching is a leaf border. This is done by repeating a design around the perimeter of a mirror. Besides being attractive, a leaf border can make your mirror look as if it’s framed.

There are countless designs from which to choose. Some of the more popular etchings involve logos, family crests and military patches.

Glass Etching Techniques

  • Surface etching—This technique involves only etching the surface of a piece of glass. The designs are black and white (positive and negative). While the etched portions usually appear white, the unetched, or clear, parts of a design look dark or black. It's the easiest one to do, besides the quickest.
  • Carvings—In carved etchings, your image is carved or blasted into the glass, which gives it a more three dimensional appearance. Carvings can be done in one, two or several stages. They render a more sophisticated look than surface etchings.

Glass mirror etchings are one of the many services offered at Hutchison Glass & Mirror. To find out more about how we can serve you, please contact us.

a3fe66728906c623f76370bc7970f860 resizedWith one of the year’s biggest, most celebrated cooking holidays on the horizon, we wanted to talk about glass table tops. Many people ask us, “Are they safe to use during Thanksgiving feasts?” The succinct answer is, “Yes, with a few caveats.” Remember, not all glass table tops are created equal. As such, they tend to vary when it comes to things like the ability to handle thermal expansion, rapid temperature changes and the impact of external forces. With that said, here’s a rundown of what to keep in mind:

Don’t set glass topped tables near heat sources or in unheated rooms. Otherwise, as you’re cooking Thanksgiving dinner, the rapid changes in air temperatures could cause stress to build. And like anything else, when stress builds to a certain point, it could cause cracks or a total breakdown to occur.

Do remember to avoid placing very hot or cold plates onto glass table tops too. Those types of temperature extremes may create stress as well. Therefore, it is always better to use temperature resistant items to separate the dinnerware from the glass table tops (e.g. coasters, rubber footed trivets and thermal mats).

Similar maybe said for drinking glasses that have a tendency to sweat. They could cause the glass table top to develop hard water marks or other types of discoloration. If that does happen, act quickly and try to remove the stains from the table using Lemi Shine® Detergent or full strength, white vinegar and a lint-free, absorbent cloth.

Don’t place salt blocks, plates or slabs directly onto glass table tops either. Invest in a piece of butcher block or a corrosion resistant plate that can cradle the blocks or slabs during Thanksgiving dinner service. After all, salt is very corrosive and is frequently used to etch glass. So placing a salt block onto the table could actually mar the glass surface and weaken it all the way down to the core.

To learn more about making stunning, glass table tops a focal point during your next Thanksgiving dinner, please contact us at Hutchinson Glass & Mirror today.

how-wall-mirrors-can-work-well-in-small-rooms-of-your-home-college-park-mdHaving several small rooms does not mean you need to treat them like so. It is possible to make a small room be just as useful as a large room, as long as you invest in proper organization and furniture. It is simply not realistic to purchase or place large furniture into a small room and except it to work, you need to work with what you have, which is a limited amount of space.

Using wall mirrors is an excellent way to improve your small rooms in a variety of ways.

Get More Light with Minimal Lighting

Having a mirror next to a source of light is a smart choice because it will reflect the light and bounce throughout the room to create even more lighting. Artificial lighting is artificial regardless of how you put it, so it really does not matter whether you get extra light from a floor lamp, table lamp, or mirror.

Make the Space Appear Larger

In a small room, you may feel a little claustrophobic depending on how you organize the room, but despite not being able to get more square footage, you can still make the room feel larger. Wall mirrors can be used to reflect an open space, which gives off the illusion of having more space.

Create a Non-Obstructive Focal Point

If you generally like to have a large focal point in your room, you may not be able to do this when you have a small room that demands functionality. However, you can still enjoy a beautiful focal point with a wall mirror because a wall mirror does not need to consume a lot of room, just some space on the wall.

are-your-bathroom-mirrors-ready-to-meet-face-to-glass-with-the-in-laws-manassas-vaYou’ve just got the news, company is coming. Better check out the guest and main areas of your home to make sure that they’re up to snuff. And yes, that includes those bathroom mirrors. After all, they’re known to accumulate nasty buildup caused by the use of personal care products like toothpaste, hair lacquer and scented body spray. Here’s how to get them ready before the in-laws show up:

Half fill a spray bottle with distilled water and rubbing alcohol. Then spray it onto clean paper towels and use them to wipe down the bathroom mirrors. It should remove the hair lacquer, body spray and toothpaste residue in a hurry. When you’re done, dry the glass with new paper towels and reach for some Rain‑X® Anti-Fog or a similar product.

Apply the anti-fog as directed. In our experience, it will cut down on the chances that your visitors will feel compelled to run their hands all over your bathroom mirrors after every steamy hot shower. And that will most definitely keep the germs and housework to a bare minimum during their impromptu stay. Afterward, store the anti-fog wipes, alcohol water mixture and paper towels underneath of the bathroom sink for any mid-stay, quick clean ups.

If your bathroom mirrors are in need of more than just a good cleaning and some anti-fog spray, don’t worry. Our glass and mirror experts can replace it with a new one. Depending on how much time you have before the in-laws arrive, you might even want to go with a customized look. There are various quick, easy ways to customize bathroom mirrors of all sizes. For example, you could request that the glass be cut in an interesting shape or have it rimmed with a fabulous frame. To learn more about those and other options before it's time to pick up your house guests, please contact us today.

3-tips-on-keeping-shower-enclosures-clean-washington-dcAfter you spend money on getting a new shower enclosure, you might be thinking about how you can make it last as long as possible. Being careful will prevent most accidents from occurring, but you need to be diligent with your cleaning efforts to minimize difficult cleaning and to maximize longevity.

Use a Shower Squeegee

A simple purchase that can be made and have an enormous impact on shower enclosures is a squeegee. After you or anyone else takes a shower, a squeegee should be used to get water off of all surfaces. While the most important part to clean is the glass to avoid water spots and mineral buildup, you can use a squeegee on just about every surface within your shower enclosure.

Get a Glass Protector

While cleaning your shower with a squeegee will do the trick for a while, you will still need to clean the shower enclosure on occasion. However, you can make it easier by using a glass protector, which acts as protection against water spots and minerals that may cause damage when left alone.

Clean Regularly

In order to clean a glass shower enclosure properly, you should avoid using cleaning supplies that will give you more problems than solutions. For instance, a steel wood pad might seem like a great option to get out a resilient stain or buildup of minerals, but this can be damaging to glass. Cleaning the shower enclosure regularly will ultimately make it last longer and easier to clean in the future.

713259f27f30312b748f308648c0883aMany Marylanders love to incorporate the feeling of being out on the water in their residential and commercial spaces’ design schemes. And who  could fault them for that? It’s hard not to love being at the ocean or places like Lake Centennial. We have found that one great way to create that  natural vibe indoors is to include custom made glass countertops into one’s interior design plans.

The multiplicity of glass countertops available on the market today is quite staggering and their inherent qualities make them easy to maintain, clean  and mount to various surfaces. For instance, some of the countertops are made with pieces of recycled glass and resin. Others are fashioned out of  solid slabs, tiles and more.

Glass countertops also pair perfectly with unique and exciting lighting options. For example, the glass could feasibly be lit from above, below or the  side to give the illusion of movement or sunlight. Some custom designs also allow for lighting to be embedded into the glass itself, which in some ways gives the illusion of an underwater submersible or deep sea divers outfitted with lights.

In our experience, blue and green glass countertops are ideal for beach and lake themed design plans. However, it is also feasible to use earth toned materials and translucent glass tops to give the appearance of a shoreline or sandy bottom. We’ve seen homeowners achieve that very look by covering tan colored, opaque glass with blue translucent slabs.

The other wonderful thing glass countertops have going for them is their ability to be paired with so many other design elements. For instance, it is not uncommon to see them alongside of back-painted glass, antique mirrors, granite sinks, metal chairs and wooden islands. They’d also work with wicker and Adirondack-style furniture, which is so often incorporated into beach or lake themed designs.

To discover more ways to bring the illusion of the great outdoors into your home with the aid of glass countertops, please contact us today.

Have you decided to remodel your Maryland home before the holiday entertaining season starts? If that’s the case, don’t forget about mirrors. They make beautiful, functional additions to any home remodeling project. To prove our point, here are five places that deserve to be decorated with great mirrors:

1.) Bathroom Vanity

What’s a bathroom without a mirror? In our book, they are just as important as sinks, toilets, cabinetry or shelving and shower tub enclosures. Most people like placing the mirrors over the sink or on the back of a door, but you don’t have to stick with convention. Consider putting them above the toilet and towel racks too.

2.) Living Room Wall

Living room walls certainly deserve great mirrors as well. Consider placing a large one behind the sofa, above the fireplace or opposite an entrance door. Gallery walls outfitted with mirrored tiles would also undoubtedly work well in some situations.

3.) Bedroom Wardrobes

The bedroom is not just for sleeping these days. It’s also used for everything from getting dressed to lounging around and reading the Sunday paper. That said, why not outfit a wardrobe or chest of drawers with mirrors? Full-length mirrors placed near a closet, bench or overstuffed chair would make a practical addition to a bedroom design too.

4.) Stair Hallways

Oftentimes, stair hallways can be hard to decorate. We’d suggest that you consider creating a salon-style arrangement of framed mirrors or frames made with small, mirrored tiles. They’ll surely help brighten up the spot significantly and add a good bit of visual interest.

5.) Outdoor Porch or Sunroom

Finally, don’t forget about your home’s sunroom or outdoor porch. They could benefit from mirrors as well. Think about placing the mirrors in areas that are likely to reflect the outdoors or the most natural light. If you have lighting and ceiling fans in those rooms as well, consider placing mirrors around them too.

Spend any amount of time on Pinterest or flipping through magazines and it’s easy to see that glass front kitchen cabinets are all the rage these days. Some people are opting to go with beveled or textured glass. Other interior designers seem to prefer frosted, stained or etched glass patterns. With that in mind, here are five great patterns to consider during your next kitchen remodel:

1.) Apple Blossoms

Glass etched with images of apple blossoms have long been a favorite among homemakers. For proof, just take a peek at Depression era glass. Of course you don’t have to restrict the etchings to apple blossoms. Dogwoods, cherry blossoms, crepe myrtle and magnolias would look lovely too.

2.) Chantilly Lace

For a soft and feminine touch, consider outfitting your kitchen cabinets’ glass doors with images of Chantilly lace. It’s a widely recognized, distinctly French design from 17th century Paris. So you may want to pair it with an Old World island, wooden chairs, wicker baskets, farm-style sinks and metal pot racks.

3.) Grape Clusters

If you already have a wine rack in your home’s kitchen or plan on adding one soon, consider decorating the cabinetry glass doors with images of grape clusters. The clusters would work well with a variety of interior design schemes include Greek, Spanish and Tuscan.

4.) Roses

Prefer Old English or Tudor-style designs? Then glass fronts etched with roses are sure to please. There are various ways to incorporate the roses into the glass door panels. For instance, you could opt to go with miniature tea rose buds or images of large, luscious blooms and delicate leaves.

5.) Personal Monogram

Lastly, personal monograms remain popular with fans of vintage designs. So you may want to think about outfitting your kitchen’s glass cabinet doors and backsplash with one, two or three letter monograms. Just remember to choose a font that is legible and fits in with your kitchen’s overall design scheme.

Owning glass table tops doesn't limit you to the possibility of using glass on other items in your home. If you've ever had experience with glass on furniture or just using as giant mirrors, you know how effective they can be in a room. By strategically placing mirrors in certain parts of a small room alone, you can instantly make the room look larger. That's especially true with mirrors taking up the entire space of a wall.

When it comes to tables, shelving, and countertops, you can achieve the same effect. You can also use glass to achieve better lighting in an overly dark room if you place the above items in strategic locations.

Glass Table Top Advantages

When you have glass on the top of a table, you're already reflecting things around you to give the illusion that the room is bigger. Also, using glass tables near windows can help you reflect light around the room. Placing the glass table near your largest window helps this and becomes very useful when you want to fill a room more with natural light.

You also don't have to worry about scratches and dents as you would when you buy a wooden table. If you happen to get stains on the glass while entertaining guests, glass table tops are very easy to clean with regular cleaning solutions. Since glass can't be damaged from these cleaning solutions like wood can, you already have less of a headache in maintaining the table.

Glass Shelving Advantages

If you're not into glass tables, you might find a lot of positive uses for glass shelving. They provide the same reflective qualities of glass tables and help make certain cramped spaces look more spacious. They also have more of an appealing aesthetic than the bland wooden shelf look everybody else has.

Glass shelves also make any antiques you have stand out more because the glass shelves can look seemingly transparent. This works the same on glass tables when displaying items underneath the table. There, they can be seen, yet protected from any activity above the glass.

Glass Countertop Advantages

If you thought glass countertops in your kitchen might be considered too delicate, you'll be surprised at how durable they are and how easy they are to clean. Just like the glass tables and shelves, they're perfect for maintaining without having to worry about maintaining wood or other materials that stain easily. They also endure high heat, which is perfect when preparing food and setting hot dishes on the surface.

Aesthetically, it also creates a beautiful look to your kitchen by helping to reflect more natural light. Plus, variations on the glass can be made through different colors and textures.

Through all of these glass pieces, you can realize just how effective and efficient glass really is. Here at Hutchinson Glass & Mirror, we provide all of these items and many more glass items for any home or business.

Contact us to find out what other glass items we can help design and install for you to make rooms and your life much easier. As a family-owned business, we're here to help you find what you need quickly and install it for you without any hassles.

Obscure glass shower doors and tub enclosures remain popular with today’s architects, renters and homeowners alike. Thus, it is not uncommon to see them incorporated into a variety of bathroom and spa designs. If you decide to join the crowd and add one to your bathroom or spa remodeling plans this year, keep the following dos and don’ts in mind:

Do consider choosing glass shower doors that have been textured on both sides. Studies have shown that they tend to be harder to see through than obscure glass doors that have only been textured on one side. One word of caution though. The double-sided panes may not let in as much light as the single-sided ones. So you may end up sacrificing privacy for illumination or vice versa.

Don’t discount the power of frosted, tinted and reflective glass to help hide bathers from view. They can be just as effective as textured glass and may be easier for some people to keep clean. Speaking of which, just make sure that whichever cleaner you choose, it isn’t too harsh. Otherwise, it could cause scratches in the shower door or tub enclosure’s special finish.

Do keep in mind that some types of obscure glass may need to be periodically cleaned with more than just Windex. After all, hard water and soap scum have a tendency to accumulate in the shower door pattern’s peaks and valleys. Products that may help remove the unsightly mess are Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, lime scale removers and a 50/50 blend of household vinegar and blue-colored Dawn.

To learn more about obscure shower doors and tub enclosures, please contact us. At Hutchinson Glass & Mirror, we have a vast array of obscure, patterned and textured glass that can be customized to suit your needs. We can also help you find matching wall mirrors, glass shelving, medicine cabinet doors and more to make your home’s bathroom or spa complete.

Do you love your glass table tops but hate the haze and grime that sometimes comes with everyday use? Don’t worry. There are very simple ways to give both household banes the old heave ho in seconds. Here’s a quick rundown of your options:

  • Why not put that bottle of methylated spirits you have in your bathroom, crafting area or workshop to good use? Believe it or not, at full strength it makes an excellent glass cleaner. Pair it with a lint-free, microfiber cloth and you’ll have Heloise perfect glass table tops in no time.
  • Don’t have a bottle of methylated spirits sitting around the house? Then reach for jug of white vinegar instead. If your glass table top is exceptionally dirty, use the vinegar at full strength. For mild messes, feel free to blend it with distilled water. A 50/50 or 75/25 mixture, heavy on the vinegar, should be sufficient in most situations.
  • What’s that? You don’t have white vinegar in the cabinet either? Well, if you have a plastic bottle full of non-sudsy ammonia hanging out under the kitchen sink, that will work too. One word of warning though, at full strength the odor can be a bit rough on the senses. So we’d recommend diluting it with water and opening up the windows for ventilation purposes.
  • For those days when your glass table tops are dotted with candle wax, grab a bottle of Goo Gone or some other citrus based cleaner and a glass scraper. It should remove the mess quite easily. And when you are done, consider running out to buy soy or natural beeswax candles. They both tend to drip very little and don’t stick to glass table tops as much as paraffin wax candles do.

Plus, we are longstanding members of the National Glass Association and the American Society of Interior Design.

It is important to enjoy your bathroom as much as possible, and this can be hard for some homeowners to do when sticking with the bare minimum. For instance, a homeowner is likely to have certain preferences for their showering experience, so making sure they are satisfied with glass shower doors is highly recommended to get the best value on a bathroom renovation.

Use Cut Outs for Hardware

A professional that makes a custom glass shower door can customize your shower door to your preferences. Before doing this, you should learn about cut outs and how you can get a glass hole for something as simple as a door handle, or even for a robe hook when you love to wear robes. If you are interested in the most functional glass shower enclosure, you cannot go wrong with considering mitered glass, door notch, or a Mickey Mouse cut out to create a steam-proof or structurally sound enclosure.

Choose Between Various Handles

If you want something simple and plain, you can go with a square handle or knob table as they look quite standard when it comes to bathroom hardware. However, to go with a Victorian home, you may be interested in a Victorian handle, which will mesh well with your overall style. It is even possible to get a combination that includes a glass door handle and a towel bar, which increases usability.

Do Not Forget About the Accessories

While towel bars and robe hooks have been mentioned already, they are worth considering on their own. It is not a necessity for a towel bar to be meshed with a shower door handle, especially when you have extremely large towels that would otherwise hang to the ground when combined with a handle.

It is also worth considering a robe hook as this can be a great option to maintain a warm temperature after getting out of a hot shower and hit with a blast of cold air on your way out. Additionally, you may enjoy shelf brackets as this will allow you to use the space in your shower enclosure to store items for hygiene.

Putting together a brand new or renovated bathroom can be an extremely exciting project, especially when you get to the call the shots. It is possible to do this as a homeowner when you renovate your bathroom or construct a new home from scratch, but make sure you know about the options you have to customize frameless shower doors to meet your exact preferences.

Keep it Standard with Clear Glass

While some people may think glass comes in one form, there are many different types you can choose from for the shower door of your bathroom. Most bathrooms end up with clear glass, which is great for allowing light into the shower area and allows for simple maintenance. It is an excellent option for homeowners that want their bathroom to look as open as possible.

Gain True Vision with Low Iron Glass

When you get a frameless shower door with reduced iron, you are going to get an appearance that is colorless and even higher in the transmission of light compared to clear glass. Homeowners that are getting a beautiful shower tile should consider this type of glass as this will show the true color from the outside, which can make for a grand impression when entering the bathroom.

Get More Privacy with Rain Glass

With a rain-like appearance on the exterior, once you are in the shower, you will find that the glass door is smooth for increased hygiene. It is an excellent option for families where finger prints from children can be quite common in homes. Additionally, you can use this as a way to prevent people in the bathroom from being able to see clearly inside the shower, which is ideal for maximum privacy.

When it comes to the furnishing of a bathroom, there are quite a few options that you have. It is ideal to have patience when making these decisions as rushing can lead to future regrets. An important aspect of a bathroom is the mirrors that are used, and this is because there are so many to choose from.

Medicine Cabinets

If you are looking for a reflective surface that provides as much storage as possible, you cannot go wrong with a mirrored medicine cabinet. It is an excellent design choice for small-sized bathrooms, but it can still serve plenty of function in large bathrooms by providing ample storage space. Deciding on hinges can help you bring a classic look to this kind of mirror for your bathroom.

Ledge Mirrors

Minimalists will enjoy this option for one main reason. It has built-in ledges, which allows homeowners to rest their items beside the edge. While it depends on the size of your bathroom, an extremely long ledge mirror can lead to plenty of room for storage while still keeping a minimalistic appearance.

Frameless Mirror

Contemporary homes have certain qualities about them, and one of them is frameless mirrors. Going with this option is worthwhile as it generally provides you with the most viewing space. It is possible to have these bathroom mirrors customized to your exact desires, so it can be made to fit from wall to wall, or you can go with a custom design, which has the potential to lead into another style of bathroom.

Do you cringe at the thought of cleaning your shower glass doors? Do you have stubborn streaks and spots and maybe even a green tinge that all refuse to budge until you scrub with all you’ve got? Well, you don’t have to scrub for hours on end, there are some rather easy methods of cleaning your shower doors so they sparkle and shine just like they did when they were new.

Soap Scum and Hard Water Spots

Vinegar is the perfect cleaner for soap scum and hard water spots. All you need to do is dip your sponge or rag into white vinegar. Coat the door and continue applying the vinegar. Do your best to keep wet vinegar on the shower door for at least five minutes. This will allow the hard water build up and the soap scum to dissolve and become a problem of the past.

If you have stubborn problems, you can try boiling the vinegar and then applying it. Just be very careful doing this.

Once your door is clean, rinse it with warm water.

Mold and Mildew

Soap scum is harmless, but mildew (or mold, which is actually the same thing) might hurt you. This black, pink, or green growth likes to show up your shower doors, particularly around the edges. Mildew is actually a fungus and if you are allergic to mold, it might make you sick.

No matter what you call it, you can easily get rid of mildew with either hydrogen peroxide or chlorine. All you have to do is spray it on the area and wipe it and it kills the mildew. If the mildew gets behind the caulk, it will need to be replaced.

Prevention

To prevent soap scum and hard water from building up on your door, you can apply car wax to your shower doors. It seals the surface making it harder for anything to settle on the door.

To keep mold from growing, leave the shower door open after using it to allow the air to circulate.

Keeping your shower glass doors looking great does not have to be an impossibility. If your shower doors are beyond repair, though, you can contact us and we'll help you with the next step.

Working at home can be a challenge, and this is because procrastination and self-discipline get in the way. Ideally, you should turn your home office into the best workspace possible, and this should definitely include a glass top desk, which provides numerous benefits.

Can Make a Small Office Look Larger than It Actually Is

It is not a requirement to have a massive office, especially when most of your work is on a computer. Whether it is an office, dining room, or living room, glass top desks make areas appear larger than they actually are, and this will bode well just about any home office that lacks a lot of space. As opposed to feeling cramped inside a small room, a glass top desk can make you feel like you have ample room.

Helps Achieve a Modern Look

While other materials can be used for office desks, glass top desks are an excellent decision for those that are interested in a modern appearance for their home office. Proper lighting is an important aspect of having a functional work space, and while a glass top desk may not enhance this specific category, these desks can do an amazing job of enhancing the appearance of lighting used for style. For instance, lighting that is below the desk can be seen from above, as opposed to wooden desks where this is not possible.

Can Be Customized to Meet Your Exact Needs

Since offices can vary in shape and size, being able to get a customized desk is crucial. Fortunately, a glass top desk is able to be customized to exact specifications, which means you do not need to worry about fitting a prefabricated glass desk into a completely unique space. It also allows you to get a desk that is ideal for the kind of work you do, whether it includes working with a single monitor, dual monitors, triple monitors, or nothing related to computers at all.

In this case, when it comes to bathroom mirrors, you should take the time to learn about your options before making a purchase.

Framed Mirrors for Making an Easy Choice

Getting a framed bathroom mirror is a popular choice for many homeowners. Also, Installation is easy because there is only one piece of install, so a professional can be in and out of your home in no time at all when purchasing a framed mirror for your bathroom.

Sophisticated and unique, etched glass is an elegant embellishment to any home. It can improve any room by ensuring adequate light infiltration and privacy needs are met simultaneously. Another benefit is its decorative quality; whether it is a representational or abstract design, etched glass is a simple and functional way to beautify the home.

In particular, there are three places where etched glass is especially effective and attractive.

The Bathroom

Bathrooms are the perfect environment for etched glass. Many people opt for frosted windows to maximize privacy in their bathrooms. Etchings are a great way to add interest and style to frosted windows with attractive designs like flowers or abstract patterns. Etchings on glass bathroom doors are another luxurious alternative to traditional wooden doors.

The Problematic Window View

Many urban homes have at least one window that looks out onto either unseemly street, a building wall, or right into the windows of another home. One way to brighten up that less than ideal view is by distracting attention from the view itself. Etched glass can provide visual relief from the view outside if it is less than satisfactory, or even make a normal window a privacy window.

The Front Door

The front door is the gateway of the home. It is also the face of the home presented to the outside world. Etched glass is a great way to project elegance and also screen visitors entering the home. It provides a subtle layer of privacy while letting light from the outdoors stream in to the home.

Sorting through all of the different shower enclosures available on the market day can literally make consumers’ heads spin. So we wanted to make the process less complicated by using today’s blog post to talk about the advantages that come with installing popular types of shower enclosures. Two styles that we’d like to hone in on first are frameless and framed shower enclosures.

Frameless shower enclosures traditionally require the expertise of a glass fabrication expert and the use of architectural-quality glass. Just in case you are unfamiliar with it, architectural-quality glass tends to be stronger, safer, easier to maintain and more versatile than other forms of glass. Thus, it may be used to create a wide variety of unique, personalized shower enclosures.

Framed shower enclosures, as you might have assumed, rely on a support system. So the room’s architectural elements must work in harmony with the shower enclosure’s exact framework. As for the framework, in most instances, it is manufactured out of metal. Furthermore, the doors may be fashioned out of plastic or thin glass. Subsequently, that tends to make them inexpensive but harder to maintain over time.

Of course framed and frameless shower enclosures are not the only options today’s consumers have at their disposal. Some may choose to go with a blend of the two types. The blends are often referred to as semi-framed shower enclosures. They are very affordable and may be crafted in a way that works with unusual layouts. Plus, semi-framed shower enclosures have the potential to look beautiful too.

To ask questions and determine which shower enclosures are right for your properties, please contact us by calling (301) 984-7500. At Hutchinson Glass & Mirror, we’ve been installing shower enclosures in and around the Washington, D.C. metro area for decades. In addition, we are members of the Glass Association of North America, the American Society of Interior Design and the Mid-Atlantic Glass Association.

From using one of these tables in a modern living room to setting a glass top coffee table in an office with a seating area, these tables can provide the function that you want with a unique style that works perfectly for a variety of decorating styles.

Minimal Impact

One of the most appealing reasons that many people become interested in a glass surface for their coffee table is that it doesn't stand out too much or look bulky when used in their home. This can be great if you have a lot of busy patterns and pieces of furniture already and want your coffee table to look great. The sizes of these coffee table can vary greatly and allow you to choose a table which fits for the design of a room in your home without looking cramped.

Easy to Clean

A standard glass cleaner is the ideal solution for removing water marks and other spills, allowing a glass table to be the best choice compared to wood and other materials for coffee tables.

Ideal for Decorating

Most glass top coffee tables have a small surface underneath that allows you to place a variety of decorations underneath the glass. This can be great for people who want to display photographs or an assortment of figurines that have no other place in a room.

When it comes to turning your ensuite bath into your ideal bathroom, an excellent area to focus on is the shower, especially when you use it on a regular basis. Using a shower is the fastest and most effective way to get fresh and clean in the morning, so it makes sense to make this experience as positive as possible. Accomplishing this goal becomes easy when you incorporate glass shower doors, and this is because they provide many advantages compared to other shower enclosing options.

Minimal Maintenance and Repairs

Getting a glass shower door is an excellent way to minimize the maintenance and repairs that must be done inside of your bathroom. Since most homeowners tend to forego preventative maintenance and end up procrastinating on necessary repairs, not needing much in either category generally means an ideal experience for homeowners. It is even better when you get your hands on a frameless shower door, and this is because there is even less metal to clean on a regular basis.

Simple and Easy to Clean

While you still need to clean a glass shower door, the process of doing it the right way is very easy. All you need to do is administer an application of transparent polymer coating to the door. Doing this will prevent mold from arising, and it will also reduce the amount of mildew that forms. Following these steps regularly will maximize the lifespan of your glass shower door, which can last an extremely long time.

No Need to Worry About Rust

Although there are very strong metals that are used in bathrooms, one problem that they present is the fact that they can develop rust. However, a glass shower door, especially a frameless shower door will ensure this does not become a problem in the future. Investing into this kind of shower door means being able to retain the value of your bathrooms as you will not have to deal with as much corrosive materials. If you want to make this beneficial addition to your home, contact us for additional information.

Whether you're in the middle of furnishing a new home that you've recently moved into or you're interested in adding some new decorations to your home, it makes sense for you to consider the various benefits of different styles of wall-mounted mirrors. From large mirrors that function as a beautiful piece of art to mirrors that are ideal for using while you get ready in the mornings, it makes sense for you to consider the benefits that you can enjoy and the variations in appearances so that you make the best purchase possible.

Adding a Stylish Focal Piece

Depending on the appearance of the frame of a mirror, this new addition can be a beautiful option for your home. Many homeowners and renters alike are interested in sprucing up their home with a stylish work of art, making it a good idea to add a mirror that looks beautiful. Not only are wall mirrors reflective, they can also add a touch of something very interesting to any room in your home.

Imitating a Larger Space

If you're frustrated with some of the rooms in your home feeling cramped, a mirror mounted onto one of the walls may be a great way to make the space feel larger. While mirrors won't actually add any square footage to your home, the reflection that they produce can help make a space feel quite larger without any real work. This can be a fantastic option used in any room of your home that feels cramped, making it a good idea for you to invest in a mirror that can be set up against one of the walls.

Looking for decorating ideas to personalize those wall mirrors? We can customize the glass of your mirrors to fit unusual sizes and shapes, not to mention beveling it to give the glass a touch of class. Once the mirror is yours, however, you may want to try your own hand personalizing our handiwork with some of your own. Here are just a few ideas for DIY framing to get your own creative juices flowing.

  • Shutters

Got some old shutters hanging around? You can deliver a little bit of aesthetic oomph around unframed mirrors by using shutters as a decorative frame. Let's face it: shutters have become far more useful as a piece of decor than for shuttering the house from bad weather. So why not use them where they clearly serve no other objective other than looking good? Depending on the shutters you have, you can paint them to match your wall mirror to just about any decorative theme possible.

  • Virtual Frame

If you really want wall mirrors to pop out as part of your decorating scheme, surround them within virtual frames. Virtual in the sense that the frames exist only as decoration on the wall that cannot be held or moved. In other words, create a frame for your mirrors that is a piece of art work. You can paint frames for your wall mirrors freehand or with stamps or stencils. If you don't like the idea of painted frames, look at wallpaper border or tube lights or glue some photographs from a magazine that match the aesthetics of the mirror itself.

  • Collectibles

A really inventive way to personalize wall mirrors is to create a frame around them made up of something you have collected over the years. Nothing particularly valuable, of course, but if you have some baseball cards that aren't worth much or small action figures or seashells or pretty much any collectible that can be affixed to the wall around the mirror without destroying its value, you have the makings of a one-of-a-kind frame.

rsz 7d5aca3c89a9edefbbaa53f67589d316Solid coffee tables might be overly traditional for most households, but have you ever thought of using a glass top coffee table in your living room or guest room? It's a stylish way to decorate a room and one that you won't regret based on its usefulness in more ways than one. Some people underestimate the value of glass for rooms and how reflections help in the realm of interior design. Especially in small spaces, it's well worth considering using on coffee tables of any size.

Reflecting Light

One of the most significant ways a glass coffee table can help a room is the ability to reflect natural light. This can help brighten up a room if you have overly dominant items in a room such as a grand piano. Other overly dark items can stand out better this way, particularly if the glass coffee table is close to a window with open curtains. Just be sure the room has at least one window so you'll have a natural light source.

Giving the Illusion of Space

Glass coffee tables can be seen through, which helps give the illusion of transparency. By using glass, it gives a feeling a room is more expansive than it perhaps really is. It works the same as mirrors do in helping create reflections that give the illusion of more space in rooms with small dimensions. The glass's transparency also gives a chance for a fashionable rug to stand out more as a centerpiece to the room.

Helps Provide Balance with an Overly Colorful Room

If your room has overly bright colors, the transparent glass on your coffee table helps bring a color balance. There's such a thing as going overboard with color to a point where it cries out for something muted. A glass coffee table is just what you need in those scenarios. Placing one in the center of an overly colorful room helps provide visual interest and offsets recurring patterns.

Tiered Glass Coffee Tables

This customized idea is a good one because you can place decorative items in between the tiers on the table. This gives a chance to highlight those items without having them be obtrusive on the table's surface. It also helps protect items like antiques or books if food and drinks are regularly passed around the table's surface.

We want to help design a glass coffee table for you so you can enjoy all these benefits. Contact us so we can customize a glass coffee table for any room in your home. We're a family-owned company that's been around for 94 years providing quality glass and mirror products to generations of customers.

rsz ab08397eee41d768180d3750de3428eaHave you ever considered having a full wall mirror in one of the rooms of your home? It may be a dream project you've always wanted, yet thought it was too out of reach economically or just too much work. It's never too late to add a wall mirror in your home. And while sizes always vary, having a full-length wall mirror can add more benefits to your life than you may have intended.

Full-Length Wall Mirrors Make Rooms Look Larger

Do you have a guest room that's overly small and gives a claustrophobic feeling whenever you step in? A full-length wall mirror can help give the illusion that your room is larger just by reflecting the entire room. This can work even better if the wall faces toward a larger room so the room can give off the feeling of being triple the size.

Using mirrors like this is a common interior design trick to make spaces look larger. With a high-quality full-length mirror, it can give a very effective illusion of depth and a better psychological feeling to those sensitive to small environments. If it looks too convincing, remember to warn guests that it's a mirror so they don't end up having a collision.

Full-Length Mirrors for Trying on Clothes

Everyone wants to get a full view of themselves when trying on new clothes. However, not everyone has the mirror setups at home that clothing stores have in fitting rooms. Setting up a full-length wall mirror in a closet or your bedroom can give you an opportunity to see yourself better and how you look in that new suit or pair of pants.

As an alternative to seeing yourself from both sides, consider using an additional full-length mirror on an opposite wall. This can help you see yourself from behind when reflected in the opposite mirror. It also can help your bedroom look more expansive as you managed with your guest room mirror.

Wall-Length Mirrors Also Help Bathrooms

If it can fit, a wall-length mirror can help make a small bathroom look much larger and more appealing. Considering it's a place where you'll be spending as much time as you do in the kitchen, it's worth serious consideration. You shouldn't worry if someone might think you're conceited having such a mirror there, because guests will appreciate being able to see themselves in full view just as much as you do.

Visit us here at Hutchinson Glass & Mirror so we can provide any type mirror or glass option you need for your home. The sky is the limit when it comes to using mirror and glass in the home, from doors, walls, to counter tops.

rsz 36d965bd570cb11c0457da342b62350aWhen remodeling your bathroom, there are many design decisions that you will have to make. When it comes to redoing your shower, you will have to decide if you would like to install traditional framed glass shower doors, or if you will install the newly popular frameless shower doors. While frameless shower doors can be slightly more expensive than their traditional counterpart can be, there are many benefits to upgrading to the frameless option. Here are just a few of the reasons why you should consider upgrading to frameless shower doors in your bathroom.

Sleek, Beautiful Look

The main benefit of upgrading to frameless shower doors in your bathroom is the beauty, style, and elegance they will bring to your bathroom. Their modern, sleek design will be the perfect complement to your newly redesigned bathroom. If you have never seen frameless shower doors, it is hard to explain their look; however, the elegant feel they will bring to your bathroom will not disappoint you.

Maintenance

Another benefit of these shower doors is that they are typically much easier to maintain than their traditional counterpart. This is mainly due to the fact that there are no tracks in which dirt and grime can collect, which is one less thing for you to clean. Furthermore, these tracks that are on traditional shower doors are susceptible to corroding and rusting over time, which can cause them to need to be replaced. Since frameless shower doors do not have these tracks, they have one less component that can fail on you.

Resale Value

Perhaps the best benefit frameless shower doors provide homeowners with is that they are truly worth the investment. Installing frameless shower doors in your bathroom will not only increase the appeal of your home to potential buyers, but it will also increase the return you get on your bathroom remodel when you sell your home.

From beauty to value, there are many benefits that upgrading to frameless shower doors can provide you with.

rsz d8f89b970183930281cc0be15328a059In every home, there's one room of the house that seems to be everyone's escape from reality...at least for a little while.

The bathroom.

For her, it might mean a few minutes away from the kids and imagining herself drifting away into a wonderful, luxurious spa setting. For him, it might mean a few minutes of peace and quiet, with a design and a feel that makes him feel relaxed. Your bathroom can be a sanctuary for anyone in your home, but only if it's designed in such a way that it feels relaxing. According to a recent article on the She Knows Home & Garden website, the word relaxation is a major element in bathroom trends for 2014. Here are a few suggestions to help you incorporate a more serene bathroom in your own home.

Glass Shower Doors

There is something that's simply elegant about glass shower doors. Many homes have opted for a shower that's separate from the bathtub in keeping with a more modern home design. You'll add an element of sophistication by incorporating custom-made glass shower doors to your design. Not only are they beautiful, but they can also make your bathroom appear larger.

Opt For More, Not Less

Minimalistic used to be the trend when it comes to bathroom design, but newer trends are calling for bigger and more dramatic effects in the home. In the bathroom, these effects are especially beautiful. Instead of a small mirror over the vanity, why not opt for a larger mirror that becomes the focal point of the room? Or, perhaps you haven't noticed how outdated your medicine cabinet looks. A new face on it can bring a breath of fresh air into the bathroom as well.

Mirrored Cabinets

Every bathroom has to have a storage solution, but people are often looking for ways to hide their storage areas because they can detract from the attractiveness of the design. Mirrored cabinets can give you the storage you need while adding a lovely accent to the bathroom. These cabinets can also give you the added space you need in the bathroom to keep the vanity and shelves free of clutter.

If you're thinking about doing something special with your bathroom this year, we have a lot of great ideas! Our professionals are eager to talk to you about your ideas.

When it comes to adding space to your living area, wall mirrors are the perfect addition. Not only do  they make it look as if your room is larger but they add light, elegance, and charm.

Mirrors work to spread light in rooms which can not only brighten up dark corners but their  reflections make any room look bigger. The key element is to choose what the mirror will be  reflecting. For instance, a dining room wall is the perfect area to place a decorative mirror but you'll  want to make sure  it's not reflecting the sink or garbage area. An opposite decorative wall is a good  reflective area or even  facing a window or door to the outside.

In fact, wall mirrors add elegance as well and you never have to worry about them going out of style or  you changing your mind on the look, like sometimes happens with wall art. They're timeless pieces  that can be passed down to future generations and are built unique to each person's specifications.

We've been in business since 1920 and can customize the wall mirror you want to fit in with any  decor. We work with different beveling, patterns, edging and shapes so that your wall mirror is as  unique as your aesthetic and we work with you from start to finish; this includes field measurements,  production, and installation.
